NIMBLE HANDS AT WORK
‘Paramparaven’ - an exhibition and sale promoting the virtues of hand-made lace in Sri Lanka and showcasing a resurgent beeralu trade and silver jewellery by the coastal region community of Mirrissa, hit by the tsunami, will be held from November 24 to 25 at the Galle Face Hotel. The items are made by small entrepreneurs assisted by South Asia Partnership Sri Lanka.

President: No room for communalism

President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared yesterday that communalism would never be tolerated by his Government. "We dearly love our Motherland and respect our various communities, but we are in no way racist. We denounce all forms of communalism," President Rajapaksa told the 29th D.A. Rajapaksa memorial ceremony in Tangalle.

Sri Lanka Insurance Board Act to be amended

An Amendment to the Sri Lanka Insurance Board Act which would enable any company to act as insurance agent would be passed within the next few months, industry sources said.
