EU bans LTTE
The European Union formally banned the Liberation
Tigers of Tamil Eelam as a terrorist organisation, EU sources
revealed yesterday. The 25-nation bloc rubber-stamped the ban, which
was agreed in principle last week, at a meeting of EU Ministers late
Monday evening.

Government rejects military option
President Mahinda Rajapaksa's vision is for a
maximum devolution of power in an undivided Sri Lanka, the
Government asserted yesterday. "The Government is of the firm
conviction that solutions to the issues at hand have to be sought
only through political means and not through military means," a
Government statement issued soon after the EU proclamation on the
LTTE said yesterday.
