Restraining Order extended

COLOMBO: The Colombo District Court yesterday extended the
enjoining order issued earlier restraining UNP leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe preventing Mahinda Wijesekara from acting as the Matara
District leader and UNP Working Committee Member.
Colombo District Court Judge Aruna C. Perera also fixed June 6 for
hearing the plaint and ordered submissions be filed on June 6.
The Court made this order following the plaint filed by UNP Member of
Parliament Mahinda Wijesekara citing UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and
General Secretary N.V.K.K. Weragoda as the defendants.
Filing the plaint Wijesekara sought the Court to declare that he
still was the Matara District Leader and held the membership of the UNP
Working Committee.
Plaintiff stated that in a letter dated April 2, 2006, the UNP leader
informed him that it was not necessary for him to act as the Chairman of
the Matara District and as a member of the UNP Working Committee.
He also said it was not fair since no valid reason was not noted to
do so. Further the letter did not say that he was removed or expelled
from the said posts.
Wijesekara in his plaint prayed the Court to issue an order
preventing Ranil Wickremesinghe or the UNP from removing him from acting
as the Matara District leader and acting as a Member of the UNP Working
Committee. |
