MUTTUR: Not a single family has fled Muttur following LTTE
threats to vacate their lands, Military sources said.
They said the Muslim public in Muttur was determined to defend their
homes against the terrorists. They had categorically stated that they
would not move from their homes, sources said. Meanwhile, the government
had strengthened security in Muttur following LTTE leaflets threatening
Muslims to evict from the area.
The LTTE had distributed the leaflets among Muslim civilians in
Palanagar, in which they have ordered them to vacate the area within 72
hours or face the consequences.
Military sources said this was a serious violation of human rights,
the Geneva convention, the State law and the Cease-fire Agreement.
Sources said they had brought this to the notice of the United
Nations High Commission for Refugees and the SLMM. They denied news
reports telecast over a certain private TV channel which said 15
families had fled Muttur following the distribution of leaflets. |
