JVP condemns LTTE killing of 12 civilians
WELIKANDA: The JVP has vehemently condemned the killing of 12
civilians engaged in road construction work in Omidiyamadu, Welikanda
yesterday and said it clearly proved that the LTTE is engaged in an
ethnic cleansing campaign in the North while appearing as the saviours
of Tamils.
The JVP in a press release issued yesterday said the innocent victims
of this massacre including the two people injured are a group of
labourers resident in Mahasenpura, Welikanda.
The Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people living in the North and East
have been subjected to harassment by the LTTE and the government should
take urgent steps to ensure their safety.
The government should pay attention to the fact that the LTTE was
continuing these atrocities despite the ban imposed by the international
community including the European Union and Canada.
By killing these 12 villagers on Monday night the LTTE had
deliberately tried to ignite a clash between Sinhalese and Tamils in the
area with the aim of developing it to a communal clash.
While the government should take measures to ward off such a
situation without falling into the LTTE trap the time has come for the
people of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities to act in an intelligent
manner by properly identifying the low intentions of the LTTE. |
