Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Maj. Gen Trond Furuhovde called on President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga at President’s House on Wednesday. During the meeting President Kumaratunga stressed her commitment to the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement. Army Commander Lt. Gen. Lionel Balagalle, Secretary Ministry of Defence Cyril Herath, Presidential Advisor Mano Tittawella and Secretary to the President W.J.S. Karunaratne were also present.

A felicitation ceremony to mark the 75th birth anniversary of Ven. Dr. Medagama Vajiragnana Nayake Thera, Viharadhipathi, London Buddhist Viharaya was held at the BMICH, Colombo on Thursday. National Think Tank to tackle urgent problems

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is to set up a National Think Tank to deliberate on and recommend urgent national policies and plans of action to be taken in economy, education, health, law and order, crime prevention, peace and other major issues.

CP, LSSP tie-up with Freedom Alliance

Sri Lanka's two oldest Marxist parties, the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) and the Communist Party will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) next week with the Freedom Alliance to contest the forthcoming General Election.
