Lanka regional trade hub - USAID

by Rashomi Silva

Mark Ward, the highest ranking USAID official covering South East Asia, said yesterday three years ago USAID was planning to close its programs in Sri Lanka, but decided to revise the programs as "USAID was optimistic about peace prospects in Sri Lanka."

Addressing a press conference at the American Centre, he said Sri Lanka is strategically located making it a regional hub for trade and investment.

"The economy is therefore well positioned to take advantage of international economic opportunities."
