News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Wayamba poll before end April The Provincial Council election for the North Western Province is to be held before the end of April, the Elections Secretariat said yesterday. The nominations from political parties to contest the North Western Provincial Council will be accepted from February 27 to March 5. According to the Provincial Council Elections Act, the polls should be scheduled by the Elections Commissioner between five to eight weeks after closing nominations. Each contesting party should submit a list of 37 nominations for the Kurunegala district and 19 nominations for the Puttlam district. Altogether 50 members will be appointed to the council. The term of the Provincial Council expired on February 8. |
