Martin Wickramasinghe web site launched by Anjana Gamage The official web site of renowned writer Martin Wickramasinghe was launched yesterday at the National Library Services Board auditorium by E. Web makers in the presence of a distinguished gathering and intellectuals. School Development Minister Suranimala Rajapakse was the chief guest. Martin Wickramasinghe, recognised as one of Sri Lanka's greatest authors and intellects, started to write in Sinhala at the age of 13 and continued to write both Sinhala and English until 86 years. Some of his major novels and short stories have been translated into English, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Dutch, Romanian and Tamil. The newly designed web-site - www.martinwickramasinghe.org will provide children and adults a comprehensive heritage of literature. According to E.Web makers, the web-site is contained with his biography, landmark events in Martin Wickramasinghe's life, two bibliographies prepared by Dhanapala Gunasekara and Nuwaraeliye Hemapala, his handwriting, interviews and video clips of his life and the life of the Koggala village people that formed the background to much of his writings, list of books written by Martin Wickramasinghe, children's page with sample reading, Martin Wickramasinghe museum in Koggala and collection housed in the Sri Lanka National Library, Martin Wickramasinghe Trust objectives, selected fictions and personal photographs of Martin Wickramasinghe and the views from international and local writers and academics. The web-site is presented in Sinhala and English languages, with a home page in Tamil which provides access to the entire web-site. The Sinhala web-site can be accessed direct, without downloading Sinhala fonts, sources added. |
