Five heavy caliber guns found in Vellamullivaikkal
Troops conducting a search operation in the
Vellamullivaikkal area, including the beach, where almost 300,000
civilians were kept hostage by the LTTE during the last stage of the
humanitarian operation, recovered five heavy calibre artillery guns.
A130 mm artillery gun and two 120 horse power boat engines were
excavated by troops at Vellamullivaikkal beach.

New Navy chief of staff
President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed Rear
Admiral Damayantha Dharmasiriwardena as the Chief of Staff of the
Navy with effect from November 1. Rear Admiral Dharmasiriwardena
joined the Navy in August 1978 and completed training at the Naval
and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee, before attending the Sub
Lieutenant Technical Course in India.

SLCG arrests 45 Australia bound people
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) arrested 45 persons
illegally bound for Australia on board a multi- day fishing trawler
at the Beruwala Fisheries Harbour on Thursday night. According to
SLCG Media Spokesman Lt Commander Chandana Bulegoda Arachchi, there
were 35 men,eight women and two children among the arrested persons.
