Don’t take the law into your hands
No leniency for attacks based on mythical tales:
The Police yesterday requested the public not to
take the law into their own hands but let the law enforcement
personnel handle incidents of criminality. Police Spokesman SP
Prishantha Jayakody said several incidents of residents attacking
individuals arriving in their villages for sight-seeing and other
purposes have been reported from several areas.

A racket involving sending underage girls for
foreign employment by forging their passports and travel documents
was busted by Police with the arrest of a rogue foreign employment
agent in Maradana.

Gem employee’s son held over ransom demand
A special squad attached to the Criminal
Investigation Department (CID) arrested a person who is alleged to
have demanded a Rs 20 million ransom and later accepted Rs 1 million
from a gem merchant in Ratnapura. CID investigations revealed that
the suspect who was arrested while accepting the ransom of Rs. 1
million, was a son of a senior employee of the Ratnapura gem
merchant.
