Abduction foiled

A suspect who allegedly abducted a young woman had been arrested by Athurugiriya Police yesterday.

The suspect who is a young three-wheeler driver in Athurugiriya is to be produced before the magistrate's court today, Athurugiriya Police OIC I Senanayake told the Daily News yesterday.

He said that the woman who is aged between 28 to 30 had been working as a domestic.

She had hired the three-wheeler and had offered a Rs 500 note as payment for the hire. The three-wheeler driver continued driving without stopping at the destination saying that he wants to change the Rs 500 note to provide the balance. The woman who got scared over this had jumped out of the three-wheeler.

Several policemen who were at this spot had seen the incident and had overpowered the three-wheeler driver and taken him to the police station.
