Asia Cup cricket from today :

Asia’s Test-playing nations begin their preparations for next year’s World Cup when they contest the region’s top one-day prize from today. Away from the global spotlight on the football World Cup in South Africa, the four-nation Asia Cup will be played in Dambulla over the next 10 days.

Bhanuka - Schoolboy Cricketer of the year

Royal College skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa won the Sunday Observer Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the year award at the 32nd annual awards ceremony held at the BMICH in Colombo yesterday under the distinguished patronage of Mass Media and Communication Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Sports Minister C.B. Ratnayake and Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

Sparks fly as World Cup journalists’ plane belly-flops

A plane carrying journalists to a World Cup match made an emergency landing near Johannesburg Sunday, sending sparks flying as its belly flopped along the tarmac, an airport spokesman said. All those on board the flight escaped unhurt, including a group working for the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera network who were on their way to cover Algeria’s match against Slovenia.
