Boost for junior schools soccer

The under-13 schools soccer tournament for boys and girls has been
given a massive boost when Ceylon Biscuits Ltd (CBL)’s nutrition cereal
brand Samaposha announced that it will sponsor the tournament for the
second consecutive year.
This was disclosed at a press briefing held at the Football House.
The tournament which will be an opportunity for authorities to
identify talented lads and lasses, will see 430 boys teams and 106
girls’ teams island-wide taking part.
Organized by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, the tournament ill
see eleven–a–side teams compete at school level and then at district
level. The preliminary round matches in progress at 29 centers
islandwide. The final round matches will take place in Badulla on July
17, 18 and 19 with 20 boys teams and 16 girls teams in battle for
Samaposha Challenge Trophy.
Last year, Al Adhan MV, Badulla won the boys’ championship, beating
Zahira College, Gampola in the final. St. Bernadette’s Model School,
Polgahawela were the girls’ champions last year while Maliyadeva Balika
MV, Kurunegala were the runners up. |
