WILPATTU REBORN
The tragic events that heralded the dark era of
the Wilpattu National Park began 25 years ago. The man who figured
prominently in that unfortunate period of Wilpattu is Lionel
Sirimalwatte, residing at Parana Maragahawewa, Wilpattu junction.
Now aged 63, he is the nephew of Kalu Mahattaya who first started
jeep safaris in Wilpattu.

Parliament. Some were elected, some re-elected, some thrown out,
some dubbed ‘also-ran’ and some lost deposits. Almost everyone who

First Buddhist school on verge of collapse:
Time ripe to rebuild education
Leaving its glory and pride to the days gone by,
today, the school faces only crisis and decay. The decaying and
cracked walls have lost all the strength and lustre it had during
its prime years but today, only stand testimony to the present
plight of the school. Education authorities seem to have turned a
blind eye to the dismal and ramshackle state of the school. About 10
years ago, the Advanced Level classes were halted.
