Despite the global economic downturn the banking industry has performed outstandingly last year. The Central Bank has pursued strict regulation on the banking sector during the global economic meltdown. As a result there was not much impact on the banking sector of the country.

Rent-a-car industry geared to cater to boom

Local industry generates US$ 20 to 30 million:

The growth momentum expected in the tourist sector would be an impetus for the rent-a-car industry development. The peaceful environment has created growth opportunities for the rent-a-car industry and with the realization of true potential in the tourist sector the industry will blossom in the near future, President of the Rent-A-Car Association Kishan Perera told Daily News Business.

SLIIT to enrol South Asian students

Student enrolment increased last year:

The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) has planned to enrol students from India, Bangladesh and Maldives. Initially the students will be from the region according to proximity and then SLIIT will cater countries such as Pakistan and the Middle East in the next phase, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), President/CEO, Prof. Lalith B. Gamage told the Daily News Business.
