ASEAN amidst extraordinary measures
Thailand: Thailand will resort to an extraordinary measure,
the Internal Security Agreement, due to the increasing political turmoil
for the forthcoming ASEAN Summit, announced the media Wednesday.
The Executive of Abhisit Vejjajiva said the decision is aimed at
keeping the law and order in Bangkok during the massive demonstrations
announced by the opposed United Front for Democracy against the
Dictatorship (FUDD) known as the Red Shirts.
The emergency measure will be in force in this capital from October
15 to 25 and will also provide security to the leaders from Asia-Pacific
and top representatives of the European Union and United States that
will attend the Fifteen Summit of the Association of Southern Asian
Nations (ASEAN).The accord in force since last Monday in Hua Hin and
Cha-An localities Southwestern Bangkok, venues of ASEAN Summit that will
begin on Oct 23.
Other demonstrations will take place on Saturdays 17 and 24 after the
one that took place last weekend for the anniversary of the enactment of
