Four-year violence kills 85,000 Iraqis
Iraq: Iraq reported Wednesday that over 85,000 people died during
bomb attacks, murders and armed clashed from 2004 to 2008.
The Iraqi Human Rights Ministry spread the new statistics taking the
draft of a report over deaths certificates made by the Health Ministry
by which 147,195 people were wounded in the same period of time because
of the same reasons. However he clarified the death toll and number of
unidentified wounded people could be bigger.
The report did not make distinction between civilians and others and
possibly did not include details of missing people which are estimated
in about 10,000 Iraqis in that period of time where about 15,000
unidentified corpses were also found. Thousands Iraqis died after the US
military invasion on March 2003 and many were buried without being
identified by their families in the so-called cemetery of non identified
bodies, stated the report. According to Iraq Body Count pacifist project
at least 102,071 civilians died in that Arab country since 2003 because
of violence.
Meanwhile Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari revealed that consultations
at UN Security Council are taking place to appoint a special envoy to
investigate accusations against Syria for what is called here bloody
Wednesday.
During a press conference in this capital Zebari affirmed that
intensive diplomatic efforts with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
and other parts took place to investigate the incident that damaged
