Aesthetic studies graduates as teachers

Initiatives have been taken by the Education Ministry to absorb
aesthetic studies graduates to the teacher service, aiming to create a
tender-minded society while filling aesthetic teacher vacancies,
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
The Minister was addressing a gathering after awarding certificates
to the winners of an All Island Dancing and Ballet Competition at Devi
Balika Vidyalaya.
He said aesthetic subjects helped to mould the character of citizens
in society.
There should be teachers to teach aesthetic subjects in every school.
The Education Ministry has taken steps to fill vacancies existing for
teachers in aesthetic subjects by the first quarter of next year, music,
dancing and arts teachers are especially attached to schools, Minister
Premajayantha said.
The Education Ministry has taken initiatives to include aesthetic
subjects as a compulsory subject in the school curriculum for students
from Grade 6 to Grade 11. Under the advice of the Education Ministry,
the National Institute of Education (NIE) is engaged in planning this
process.
