Golden Key case:

Suspects refused bail

Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Harsha Sethunga refused applications for bail in respect of 11 suspects remanded in connection with the alleged Golden Key Credit Card fraud and remanded them till November 12.

The Judge directed Fiscal Officers to produce the suspects on October 28 to extend the remand order.

The Judge told the Counsel who appeared for the depositors to make their complaints, if any, regarding interference with the prosecution witnesses to the CID.

The Judge told CID to report to Court regarding those complaints, if they have been made, on the next date.

Deputy Chairman Cecilia Kotelawela was not present in court yesterday. The other 11 suspects were present in Court.

Senior State Counsel Damith Totawatta who appeared with Sub Inspector Nalinda Herath of the CID for the prosecution strongly objecting to the suspects being released on bail said that he is concerned only with the Golden Key case and not any other cases pending before several other courts.

President’s Counsel Rienzie Arasacularatne, Anil Silva, Jeewanthi Jayatilleke and Ravi Mathugama who appeared for the suspects moving for bail said their clients are prepared to submit affidavits to settle the depositors.

Attorneys Sumeda Hewage and Bandara appeared for the depositors.

The case will be called again on November 12.
