African countries seek protection from crisis
Zambia: The Summit of Heads of State and Government for the Southern
African Development Community will seek possible solutions for the
effects of the world economic and financial crisis.
To address the phenomenon, the member countries plan to propose the
creation of a free trade zone that allows development opportunities for
them and their neighboring countries.
They will also discuss the need to restructure SADC for better
efficiency and organization.
As a previous step to the meeting, two assistant secretary posts were
created: one for Programs and another in charge of the regional and
economic integration.
SADC groups Angola, South Africa, Botswana, the Democratic Republic
of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia,
