Certain clauses inconsistent with Constitution:

Special majority needed for Bill’s passage

Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara yesterday told Parliament the Supreme Court has determined that certain clauses of the Bill titled ‘Parliamentary Elections (Amendment)’ are inconsistent with the Constitution and a two third’s majority is needed to pass the Bill in Parliament.

Changes to Elections Act imminent

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Reforms presided over by the Chief Government Whip and Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has made a number of recommendations to change some of the provisions of the Parliamentary Elections Act No.1 of 1981.
