A meeting was held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday chaired by Human Rights and Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe to apprise the diplomatic community on the telecast of a spurious video film by Channel 4 to discredit the Government. Minister tells Channel 4:

Rebut or regret

Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe addressing Colombo based diplomats yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat to apprise them of the bogus Channel 4 video footage said that in the face of scientific and expert evidence proving that the video clip was a doctored one the Government expects Channel 4 to rebut the evidence or publish an apology of their unprofessional conduct that has been grossly detrimental to the image of Sri Lanka.

Journalists who fled country behind Channel 4 episode

Some journalists who had fled the country recently calling themselves Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka were behind the attempt of London Channel 4 TV’s doctored telecast that sought to defame the Sri Lankan Armed Forces it has been found.

Certain clauses inconsistent with Constitution:

Special majority needed for Bill’s passage

Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara yesterday told Parliament the Supreme Court has determined that certain clauses of the Bill titled ‘Parliamentary Elections (Amendment)’ are inconsistent with the Constitution and a two third’s majority is needed to pass the Bill in Parliament.

A huge range of artificial flowers embellish almost every exhibition in Sri Lanka. Some people believe they are imported. These flowers were captured by Daily News Business photographer Sumanachandra Ariyawansa at a factory belonging to Green Manufacturers (Pvt) Ltd in Ja-ela. About 200 attractive flower items which look very natural are manufactured here providing employment to nearly 1,000 people. The Managing Director of the Company Nandana Maliyadeva said that he could provide 400 employment opportunities if a new factory can be set up as planned with the support of the Government. Here the Managing Director inspects the finished products at the factory.
