Plantation companies submit two-year proposal to TUs

Plantation companies have submitted a two-year proposal to trade unions in the tea sector to solve their wage increase problem at the meeting at the EFC in Rajagiriya on Monday. Chairman, Plantation Services Group of the EFC and CEO Balangoda and Madulsima Plantation Lalith Obeysekara said that they proposed an increase of Rs. 1,750 per worker per month at the end of two years. It was proposed to increase Rs 40 per day per worker with immediate effect.

A huge range of artificial flowers embellish almost every exhibition in Sri Lanka. Some people believe they are imported. These flowers were captured by Daily News Business photographer Sumanachandra Ariyawansa at a factory belonging to Green Manufacturers (Pvt) Ltd in Ja-ela. About 200 attractive flower items which look very natural are manufactured here providing employment to nearly 1,000 people. The Managing Director of the Company Nandana Maliyadeva said that he could provide 400 employment opportunities if a new factory can be set up as planned with the support of the Government. Here the Managing Director inspects the finished products at the factory.
