Three new meet records set up

Three new meet records were established at the 46th Army Inter Regiment Athletic Championship meet held at Sugathadasa stadium yesterday.

C.P. Nilmini (4SLAWC) set a new record for the Shot Put in a distance 10.91m to erase the old record 10.88m set by R.M. Rajapaksha in the year 2006.

The second record was established by K.K.W. Udayangani in the Triple Jump event with a 11.60m to lowered the old record 11.53m set by R.T. Ariyarathna in the year 1998.

M.W.R. Wiyanage (GW) set a other new meet record established for the High Jump 2.07m erasint the old record set by Manjula Kumara in the year 2004.

The athletes in attendance under the patronage of Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army and Mrs. J. Jayasuriya.

The meet will be held today and tomorrow at the same venue starting at 8.00 a.m. on both days.The main sponsor is Munchee Biscuits.

Shot Put (Women) - final: 1. C.P. Nilmini (4SLAWC) 10.91m, 2. G.J.P. Galhena (2SLAWC) 8.72m, 3. W.G. Priyadarshani (1SLAWC) 7.77m.

Triple Jump (Women) - final: 1. K.K.W. Udayangani (5SLAWC) 11.60m, 2. H.L.N.D. Lekamage 10.65m, 3. P.P.H.C. Sanjeewani (3SLAWC) 9.63m.

High Jump (Men) - final: 1. M.W.R. Wiyanage (GW) 2.07m, 2. A.N.D.P. Rathnasiri (SLASC) 2.04m, 3. P.L.A.S.D. Pieris (SLA) 1.98m.
