Ministry to spend Rs. 2,870m to upgrade hospitals

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry will refurbish and modernize all State hospitals at a cost of Rs. 2,870 million next year. All hospitals in Sri Lanka including those under the purview of Provincial Councils will be included in this program, a Ministry spokesman said.

He said there are around 1,100 state hospitals in Sri Lanka and next year the Ministry will not construct any new buildings for any of them. But all hospitals will be refurbished and modernised with modern medical laboratories, medical equipment and other facilities.

All hospitals including those under the purview of Provincial Councils, base hospitals, general hospitals, rural hospitals and other hospitals are included in this program.

The Treasury has allocated funds for this program. After refurbishing, all hospitals will be able to deliver an efficient service.
