Lanka-Russia to enhance media, cultural ties

The Russian Federation will make arrangements to develop the Sri Lanka-Russian partnership of communications and cultural relations and continue consolidating and strengthening bilateral co-operation with Sri Lanka, said Russian Deputy Media Minister Alexender Sharov.

He said so when Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene met him in Moscow last week. The two sides focused on the exchange of views and experience of both countries. They also discussed boosting cooperation in the field of film and television between Sri Lanka and Russia.

The Sri Lankan Media Minister proposed to start a joint discussion to introduce a new Memorandum of Understanding with the Russian Federation to exchange media delegations between the countries, share modern media technology and also receive Russian film products to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Russian Federation Udayanga Weeratunga proposed to arrange a special delegation from the Russian Federation consisting of Media Ministry officials and TV, news and electronic media personnel to visit the country.
