Record investment influx tops US$ 2.5 b

Western Province growth on par with China:

The Board of Investment has approved foreign investments to the tune of US$ 2.5 billion for the first four months of the year, creating an all-time record. "This is a clear indication of investor confidence," said Minister of Enterprise Development and investment Promotion Dr. Sarath Amunugama.

LTTE torches bus carrying schoolchildren

The LTTE set fire to an SLCTB bus in Jaffna after ordering its passengers to get out last morning. The bus belonging to the Kondavil depot was plying from Maradanamadam to Urimpirai when it was forced to stop at a point on the Palai main road by a group of LTTEers riding motorcycles.

Sri Lanka Telecom, the country's only integrated communications provider received BOI status from the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka enabling them to import and purchase project related items free of Customs duty.
