30 journalists complete e-journalist programme

COLOMBO: Thirty journalists who followed the e-journalist training programme conduced by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka will receive their certificates and awards from Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana tomorrow at 4.30 p.m. at the World Trade Centre.

Agence France Presse Bureau Chief Amal Jayasinghe will deliver the key note address on 'News goes digital' at this event. President's Additional Secretary Gamini Senarath, ICTA Chairman Prof. U.K. Samaranayake, and ICTA officials will participate.

Prof. V.K. Samaranayake, speaking about the programme, says, "We have given these journalists a comprehensive training on ICT and how they can improve their journalistic skills through the use of new technologies.

"The e-Sri Lanka initiative aims at improving the lives of all citizens through the use and development of ICT and this is just one aspect of it," he said.

The 30 new eJournalists are Pushpa Illanganthilake (Divaina), Ajantha Kumara Agalakadaarachhi (Lankadeepa), Cithra Kumari Kalubowila (SLBC) C.B.M. Ziam (Rupavahini Anne Ridmi Perera (ART TV), Mahinda Bibile (Lakhanda), Surangika Ariyawansa (Sri Lanka Environmental Journalists Forum), Chandran Kirubakaran (Rupavahini), Thushara Sujeewanie Wijesinghe (Kothmale Community Radio), Wimal J. Ruwanpathirana (SLBC), Buddika Kmbulana (Dinamina), K. Eswaralingam (Thinkaran), Inoka Bandara (Silumina), K.V. Terrance (Freelance Journalist), P.D. Edirisinghe (Farm Broadcasting Service - Department of Agriculture), Chandana Jayasinghe (Max Radio), Sudarmika Wijayrathna (SLBC), M.S.M. Risky (Lake House), Indu Colombage (President Media Unit), R.K. Ranasinghe (Siyatha FM), Niroshani Liyanage (Sri Lanka Environmental Journalists Forum), Jude Ivon Fernando (SLBC), G.G.D. Lalani (Farm Broadcasting Service, Department of Agriculture), M.N.
