While Sri Lanka and South Africa were battling it out at the R. Premadasa stadium, Colombo, yesterday, these youngsters from the tea estates of hilly Ragala, Nuwara Eliya were engrossed in their own game of cricket. The action was no less enthralling, as the estate lads displayed their cricket talents on a makeshift turf. Who knows, some of them may end up playing big-time cricket one day.

Hard on the heels of the European Union's unequivocal condemnation of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for its political killing spree, the United States yesterday urged the group to cease political assassinations, suicide bombings and recruitment of child soldiers and resume peace talks with the Government.

UNP Govt gave Rs.18.7 m worth fertiliser to LTTE - Agriculture Minister

A consignment of fertiliser worth Rs 18.7 million has been released to the LTTE from the Fertiliser Corporation during the previous UNP regime but no money has been paid for it, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Anura Kumara Dissanayake told Parliament yesterday.

Lanka pull off exciting three-wicket win

Kaushal Lokuarachchi, the bad boy of Sri Lanka cricket not so long ago provided a thrilling finish to the first one-day international against South Africa when he swung the last ball of the penultimate over from Shaun Pollock for six over mid wicket to give his country a three-wicket win at the R. Premadasa Stadium under lights yesterday.
