The Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute is planning to conduct a short Certificate Course in English Language Teaching (ELT) commencing on August 30. The course is 50 hours stretched over a period of six weeks, with eight hours of instruction per week. It is designed to meet the needs of both practising and prospective ELT teachers. For the former it will be a valuable Refresher Course providing opportunity for discussions and evaluation of new developments in the field of Second Language instruction, while refining their teaching strategies through micro-teaching and peer interaction. For the latter, this Course will work as an initial introduction to the theoretical concepts underpinning second language acquisition, and the pedagogical skills needed to teach a second language. Both groups will profit equally from relatively new topics such as Integrating Language and Literature and Strategies for Teaching Content through a second language. The instructional methodology the Course plans to follow is a participatory interactive teaching model. Participants will be involved in their own learning through discussion, group activities and presentations. This in turn will help enhance their language skills. The number of participants will, therefore, be limited in order to achieve this objective. It is appropriate that this Course is being conducted by the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute because it is related to the promotion of diplomacy and understanding. The course will be conducted by eminent experts. Those interested should contact the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute, on telephone Nos. 2682111 or 2682110, a release said. |
