SL beat Croatia at wheelchair tennis World Team Cup
Sri Lanka wheelchair tennis team participating at the BNP Paribas
World Team Cup in Antalya, Turkey registered their first victory against
Croatia on May 20 beating them by three games to nill (3-0) in a men's
group II pool ‘A’ tie.Sri Lanka made a clean sweep as they won both
singles and the doubles match in the tie.
World number 85 Upali Rajakaruna had no trouble in taming Croatia's
Drazen Miksic in easy straight sets in the first singles (6/1, 6/3)
followed by world number 77 D.M. Gamini beating his Croatian opponent
Anto Joskic in the other singles match where Gamini too made a straight
set win (6/1, 6/2).
Croatian pair Anto Joskic and Miksic Drazen were not able to perform
well against strong Sri Lankan duo Gamini and Upali in the doubles match
as they went down in straight sets (2/6, 3/6) conceding an easy win to
Sri Lanka.
Both Gamini and Raja are in very good form and tipped to pose a tough
challenge to big manes in the top international wheelchair tennis scene
during the tournament.
