‘Tamil Eelam’ sprang from Chola expansionism
Eelam is not a new concept promulgated by LTTE.
The origin of this concept is directly related to the nature of
relationship that prevailed between Sri Lanka and South India
throughout the history. It has been observed that various strategies
have been implemented by Tamil States in South India for expansion
of their power over Sri Lanka during the past as far back as 2nd
Century BC. Eelam is considered as one of such strategies presently
being implemented by Tamil Nadu for above purpose.

Victory Day Is Victory Day, not mourning day
The usual polarised debate is on again, on the
issue of the Victory Day commemoration. This time there are three
sides, not the usual pair of suspects. One side denounces the
commemorations as divisive, upholds the right of the Tamil people to
commemorate their dead and calls for a national day of remembrance
or mourning. Another commemorates the Tamil side, uses the occasion
to denounce as ‘genocidal’ the Sri Lankan state, government,
leadership, Armed Forces and the climax of the war itself.

WHY WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND MENTAL TRAUMA BETTER…
A long time ago, a lot of what we understand as
sensitive emotional and mental issues were considered mental
illnesses. In the same vein, the identification of mental trauma was
not as complex then as it is now. In developed countries, somethings
are taken more seriously than elsewhere and mental disorders are
aplenty ; in 1952, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders of the USA were a simple 50 page manual that became a 943
page edition by 1994. Women who could not contain themselves were
said to have ‘hysteria’ which really was emotional excess that came
out with symptoms such as fainting, nervousness, muscle spasms etc.
