Theft at economic centre: three arrested
The Mirihana Special Operations Unit arrested three suspects in
Padukka wanted in connection with stealing Rs 650,000 at gun point at
the Meegoda Economic Centre. The Police also seized a locally made shot
gun from their possession.
Two suspects had escaped from the Avissawella Fiscal Prison on
January 9 this year. The police conducted investigations after a
complaint was lodged regarding the robbery. The suspects told the Police
that they were also involved in another 13 crimes in Homagama,
Eheliyagoda, Hanwella, Dompe, Avissawella, Nawagamuwa, Mulleriyawa,
Mirihana and Maharagama.
Illicit liquor seized
STF officers attached to Puttalam camp and Wennappuwa Police arrested
three suspects with 300 bottles of illicit liquor and 300 litres of goda
in their possession in Kajuwatte, Daluwa and Nainamadama.
Two were arrested following information about an illegal brewery in
Daluwa while the other suspect was arrested at Jude Mawatha,
Nainamaduwa.
They were produced before the Magistrate Court's yesterday.
Suspects arrested with cannabis
Two suspects were arrested in Kottawa and Uva Paranagama with 2.454
kgs of cannabis by STF officers attached to Rajagiriya and Meepilimana
camps.
The first suspect arrested at the Kottawa bus station with cannabis,
was handed over to the PNB. The second suspect was arrested while
selling cannabis at Ihalakotawala, Mahagedara.
