Meegoda EC robbery suspects arrested

Police are conducting investigations following the arrest of three suspects – two of them escapees from the Awissawella remand Prison last January,allegedly involved in the Meegoda Economic Center Robbery on May 02.

The Mirihana Special Crime Operation Unit arrested thes suspects in Padukka and also seized two motorcycles and a locally made hand gun which is believed to have been used in the robbery.

The suspects were the residents of Pahala Hanwella, Ranala and Padukka areas.

The suspects, who escaped from the remand prison were the notorious Kaduwela Nishantha and Hanwella Police Nishantha, police said.

The trio were allegedly involved in 13 criminal activities such as robbery of jewelery shops , threatening the people with weapons etc. in Homagama, Eheliyagoda, Hanwella, Dompe, Awissawella, Nawagamuwa, Mulleriyawa, Mirihana and Maharagama areas, investigations reveal.
