President to attend ceremony in Kandy

 A state ceremony to mark the 260th anniversary of the establishment
of the Siyam Nikaya Upasampada will be held at the historic Maha Maluwa
of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy at 3 p.m today under the patronage
of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The ceremony has been jointly organized by the Buddhasasana Ministry,
Buddhist Affairs Department, and the Ministries of Culture and the Arts
and External Affairs under the guidance of the Most Ven Mahanayake
theras of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters.
The Upasampada pinkama of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Maha Viharayas
will begin on the Vesak Pasalosvaka Poya Day following this ceremony and
continue till forthcoming Poson Pasalosvaka Poya day and nearly 400
Samanera bhikkhus belonging to the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters will
receive higher ordination during this period.
