Peradeniya's drama tradition digitized

A variety show created on the stage by picking up about 20 different items from selected episodes of the theatre works including 'Porisadaya', 'Maname', 'Sinhabahu', 'Ravaneshan', 'Muhudu Putthu', 'Gajaman Puwatha', 'Bera Handa', 'Suba saha Yasa', 'Vikurthi', 'Rankanda', 'Tharawo Igilethi', 'Dona Katherina' and 'Andarela' produced by well-known talented group of Peradeniya Alumni.

Playwright K B Herath, who is also a Peradeniya Alumni member, has woven these items into a single drama depicting a kind of evolution of Peradeniya Drama Tradition with the help of the other talented alumni drama artistes.

The show mesmerized the audience while entertaining each and everyone immensely, who witnessed the first and only live show of 'Hanthana Ninnada' staged on March 27 to coincide with World Drama Day.

The DVD of the show will be launched along with the Peradeniya University Alumni Web Directory at the Arts Theatre of Peradeniya University on May 29 at 2.30 and 7 pm.

What is the objective of producing 'Hanthana Ninnada'?

The primary objective is to raise funds to support the Peradeniya University Alumni Research Development Fund.

Another objective is to convey a message about Peradeniya Unique drama tradition to those who have not been fortunate enough to see most of these dramas on stage.

Why it is important to launching a DVD?

Launching this high quality DVD of the 'Hanthana Ninnada' variety show is important not only for fundraising and awareness creation of the above proposed project but also for ability of providing a second opportunity for those who missed this very important historical and unique performance of the huge gathering of over hundred of highly talented actors in the country and great producers gifted to our motherland Sri Lanka by the Peradeniya University.

It is also expected to fulfill the expressed demand for a DVD on this show by all Alumni living in many countries all over the world while providing some opportunity for them to participate in this venture by purchasing the same. It is our fervent hope that all who graduate from Peradeniya University will have an opportunity to enjoy this event via electronic media with their families and friends.

What is the Peradeniya University Alumni Web Directory?

This electronic web directory is first directory ever made with details of all graduates of University of Ceylon to be launched on the 29th May 2013 at the Arts Theatre of the Peradeniya University.

In the process of organizing of all our Alumni, the construction of the web based Peradeniya University Electronic Directory, where all graduates from Peradeniya University/University of Ceylon since its inception from 1952 to most recent convocation in 2012 are included as an initial important step towards building the critical mass to gather the support for this noble task.

What are the main components of the Directory? Name, Faculty, Degree Obtained and the date of the degree conformed are the main components. The directory is live and can be accessed from any part of the world where one has Internet connection. It is also designed in such a way (for a limited period) that all Alumni can access the directory to edit his/her page to include additional information like post graduate degrees earned, places of work, professions held and any other significant achievements etc.

What is the use of and who will be using the Web Directory ? It allows Alumni scattered across the globe to reconnect with their peers and colleagues, and refresh their memories of golden days at Peradeniya Campus.

It allows the Alumni to discuss how they can help the University to improve its facilities etc. In short, the Directory will open a whole new world for the Alumni.

On the other hand, it will allow the Alumni to share information on what they do to make this world a better place to live for themselves, their families and others.
