Solar Therm Vesak Pandol revolutionizes festival of light

Solar Therm, a pioneer in solar energy, implements a total solar solution making history this year at the country's most celebrated religious festival, Vesak by powering Sri Lanka's first solar powered Vesak pandol. The first of a kind solar powered pandol is an idea conceptualized by Leo Burnett Solutions Inc. (LBSI) for Solar Therm / Alpha Solar executed in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs.

The Pandol which depicts a captivating story for the youth will be located in Maharagama at High Level Road, will be on display from Saturday May 25 to 30. The twelve foot Pandol will encompass over 34,000 LED lights all powered by solar power.

Commenting on the initiative Sajith Weerawarnakula, Engineer of Solar Therm stated, 'As a part of our ongoing initiative to grow the usage of solar power in Sri Lanka, we are happy to create a first for Sri Lanka especially during the most important religious festival for the majority of the nation. This pandol demonstrates the cost effective benefits of solar power not just for individuals but also for businesses committed to sustainability, enabling everyone to reduce their environmental impact thus highlighting to the people the benefits offered by solar power. This unique demonstration during the festival of light showcases the way how the country's most celebrated of events could be carried out with the least environmental impact.

In support of the project Lalith Piyum Perera, Attorney at Law, Director General for Youth Services and Chairman of National Youth Services Council stated: ''I am very happy to observe Vesak this year with lights powered by the natural energy of the sun. ''

Solar power energy, a carbon-free, renewable alternative to the power generated with fossil fuels live coal and gas has been a technology that is today poised for a comeback.

This Vesak, Solar Therm in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Leo Burnett Solutions Inc. joins the celebration with a difference. Solar Therm, a part of Alpha Solar Energy Systems (Pvt), which has been known to revolutionize energy production, has once again demonstrated their ingenuity and innovative nature with this Solar powered Vesak Pandol.
