HSC Blacks win Open 3x3 National Selection Tournament

SLBF Men’s and Women’s Open 3x3 National selection tournament was held on April 27 and 28 at the Hendry Pedris Basketball Complex. The tournament implemented a new method of selecting players for the national 3x3 pool. It was the first time in Sri Lanka that a tournament of this manner took place, where the National selectors had to individually rank the players who took part in the above tournament.

This initiative was taken by the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation in order to make it a more transparent selection process as well as give more game situations for the players. The said selection took place in order to select the 3x3 national team, for the first FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship, which will be held on May 15, 16 and 17 in Doha- Qatar.

Twenty men’s teams and 10 women’s teams participated in the above mentioned selection tournament. The men’s tournament was played under four groups, while the women’s tournament was played under two groups. The HSC Blacks (Hambantota Sports Club Blacks) team emerged as the Champions in the men’s category beating the Colombo 3x3 team.

The Contender’s team emerged as the Champions of the women’s category beating the SL Navy 3x3 team in the finals. Mr. Pradeep Rathnayake the Secretary of the SLBF graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The following were selected for the Sri Lanka national 3x3 squad after the selection tournament.

Women’s Pool

Pramila – ( SL Navy), Solangi – ( SL Navy), Erandhi – (Air Force), Prasadhi – (Air Force), Anjali – (Track Masters ), Menika – (Track Masters ), Kumarini – (Track Masters ), Umanga – (Contenders).

Men’s Pool

Kasun – (HSC Blacks), Praneeth – (Colombo), Clinton – (NTB), Gayan – (Colombo), Yohan – (HSC Blacks), Udayanga – (Old Bens), Osanda – (Air Force), Tharindu – (HSC Blacks).

T. M Amath was appointed as the coach for the 3x3 National Basketball team.
