a National Mine Action Centre source
said yesterday. A total of
1,968,369,553 square kilometres have
been completely cleared of mines in
the North, Eastern and North Central
Provinces during the last four
years, the source said.

Mother remanded for burning child with iron
A mother of two who allegedly burnt her
six-year-old child with an electric iron, was remanded until May 9
by Galle Additional Magistrate Gunenedra Kumara Munasinghe. The
woman residing at Katugoda Housing Scheme, Galle, who had also
allegedly assaulted the child, was produced before the magistrate by
Galle Harbour Police.

Police probe Galle triple deaths
Karandeniya Police are investigating the deaths
of three members of the same family, whose bodies were found in
their house in Karandeniya, Galle, on Sunday. Police found the
bodies of the 39-year-old woman, her daughter aged 16 and son aged
nine, following information from the public.

Sri Lankan nabbed in India with fake Schengen visa
A Sri lankan was arrested by Immigration Bureau
officials at the Dabolim Airport, Panjai, India for holding a fake
Schengen visa while traveling to Paris, France. The accused was
handed over to Vasco police. Sources at the airport said that the
accused was travelling to Paris on a Schengen visa on Thursday.
Sources said that initially it appeared the Schengen visa was issued
by Spain and the visa was valid from April to June 2013.
