Swami Vivekananda (1863 - 1902) had a special relationship with Sri
Lanka, the country that he visited thrice. His main visit to Sri Lanka
in 1897 had generated enormous interest and Swamiji travelled
extensively across the country and delivered lectures at Colombo,
Anuradhapura and Jaffna.
The Vivekananda Society of Colombo, established just nine days after
his death, is perhaps one of the oldest such societies in the world.
Along with this, the Ramakrishna Mission (Ceylon Branch) formally
established in Colombo in the year 1929, has been engaged in spiritual,
educational, cultural and philanthropic activities in Sri Lanka. All are
welcome.
