Anuradhapura High Court Judge Sunanda Kumara
Ratnayake imposed a sentence of two years' rigorous imprisonment
suspended for seven years on three accused in an assault case namely
Janaka Mahendra Adikari, Eramudugolla Walawwe Parakrama Eramudugolla
and Ilangasinghe Rajakaruna Somapala alias Chuti on pleading guilty
to the offense.
Special security plan for New Year season
Police have launched a special programme to
ensure security to people converging on main cities and towns to
purchase goods and other needs for the New Year season. This
includes enhanced mobile patrols and deploying motor cycle and
vehicle squads at strategic points to offer quick response to
emergencies and the deployment of personnel in mufti to protect
consumers from pickpockets and other fraudsters and racketeers said

Police import 40,000 balloons
The Police Department announced they have
imported 40,000 balloons for the breathalyzer test to determine the
alcohol levels of persons to clamp down on drunk drivers during the
Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival season.
