Acid attack on NCP Ayurveda Commissioner

Kumara de Alwis was admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital with burn
injuries following an acid attack by two unknown persons who called
at his house around 4.50 am yesterday. Anuradhapura Police said the
assailants had tapped at the door and when the Commissioner opened

Human smuggling attempt thwarted
A group of 28 who attempted to leave for
Australia illegally from a point close to the Mirissa fisheries
harbour, were arrested by Headquarter Police, Matara on Wednesday.
Among the persons arrested were the residents of Jaffna, Kilinochchi,
Mullativu, Mannar and Vavuniya areas.

Vehicle theft: six arrested
The Mirihana Special Crime Investigation Unit
are investigating the theft of vehicles from several places in the
country. The Police arrested six and following information provided
them, took into custody seven vans and eight motorcycles they stole.
