Acid attack on NCP Ayurveda Commissioner

North Central Provincial Ayurveda Commissioner Kumara de Alwis was admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital with burn injuries following an acid attack by two unknown persons who called at his house around 4.50 am yesterday.

Anuradhapura Police said the assailants had tapped at the door and when the Commissioner opened the front door, they had thrown acid on his face and fled on a motorcycle.

Hospital sources said de Alwis who had severe burn injuries on his face and chest was later transferred to Colombo National Hospital.

Police investigations are continuing directed by Senior DIG Jagath Abeysirigunawardena and DIG Ranjith Padmasiri.
