Boards agree not to appoint umpires named in sting
The International Cricket Council (ICC) and its Full Member Boards
have agreed not to appoint any of the umpires named in a sting operation
recently conducted by an Indian TV channel, to any domestic or
international cricket matches pending the outcome of the ongoing
investigations into the allegations made.
he officials named are not contracted by the ICC and those Boards who
employ and nominate the umpires directly will conduct the investigations
as a matter of urgency. An undercover investigation by the private India
TV channel allegedly found six umpires, including one on the
international circuit, were willing to give decisions or provide inside
information on teams and playing conditions in return for illicit
payments.
This was revealed just a day after the ICC Twenty20 World Cup final
and none of those umpires was involved in the tournament. However the
umpires have denied they were willing to fix matches for cash.
