will never interfere in affairs of
the Judiciary since it firmly stands
for safeguarding the people’s
democratic rights, SLFP General
Secretary Minister Maithripala
Sirisena said. The minister said the
Executive, Legislature and Judiciary
are the guardian of the democratic
rights of the people and always
perform a pivotal role in protecting
and safeguarding these rights.

All heads of
Local Government institutions should
dedicate themselves to serve the
people in their areas by identifying
their needs properly, President
Mahinda Rajapaksa said. He said so
when he met Local Government
institution Heads at Temple Trees on
Tuesday. The meeting was held to
ascertain the views and suggestions

Heavy rains trap visitors in
Minneriya NP
Around 20
visitors, including 12 foreigners
and three children, were trapped
inside the Minneriya National Park
due to heavy rain, Wildlife
Department sources said. Mineriya
Police, Wild Life Department and
Minneriya National Park officials
were attempting to rescue them. The
visitors had entered the Park at
noon in five vehicles and heavy
rains have trap them in the Park.
