New Police Media Spokesman
SSP Prishantha Jayakodi resumed duties as the Police Media Spokesman
with effect from yesterday. Former spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana took over
duties as the Ampara Division SSP.
Woman stabbed
An 18 year old woman who sustained serious injuries after being
stabbed by a man, succumbed to her injuries at Anamduwa hospital on
Monday. Anamaduwa Police arrested the suspect who is said to be the
victim's paramour. K P Udeshika Dilhani of Diulwewa died in the
incident. The suspect was remanded until October 16 on being produced in
Puttalam magistrate court.
Bodies found
Kurunegala Police on Tuesday found the body of a man floating in a
drainage canal beside the Kurunegala tank bund. The deceased was
identified as S H Mohommad Sameer, 32, of Teliyagonna. The body was sent
to Kurunegala hospital morgue for the post-mortem. Police are
investigating.
Meanwhile, Kalutara North Police, acting on a tip off, found another
body of a man at Kalido beach near the Kalu Ganga estuary. The man
appears to be of around 60 years and was thin and 5'4" tall. Police
detected injuries on his neck and right elbow. The body was sent to
Nagoda hospital morgue. Police seek public assistance to find his
identity.
Roller out of control, killing driver
A driver who received serious injured when the roller he was
operating turned over, succumbed to his injuries at Vavuniya hospital on
Tuesday. He was working at the renovation site of the Iliyamaradu tank
when he faced the mishap.
P P Martin Perera, 47, of Ambanwala, died in the incident.
Investigations are continuing.
Mother of two strangled
Karuwalagaswewa Police on Monday found a body of a 32 year old woman
floating in Mee Oya in Pawattamaduwa. Investigations revealed that the
victim, W M Chitra Irangani of Thabbowa had been manually strangled by
her paramour after an argument two days earlier at her home. Police
arrested the suspect. Interrogation from him revealed that he had dumped
her body in Mee Oya the next day. The suspect was remanded until October
23 on being produced in Puttalam magistrate court.
