Dr Geethanjan Mendis passes away

It was sad to hear the news of the passing away of Dr. Geethanjan Mendis after a brief illness in the morning of the Third and final Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Pallekelle, here today. An Old Anandian and Neurologist by profession, Mendis after serving in the Neurology Unit of the National Hospital with Dr. J.B. Pieris, headed the Sports Medicine Unit formed by the Ministry of Sport.

After serving with great dedication, where he cured many a sportsmen and women who suffered sports injuries, he moved out from the Unit and was posted to the Education Ministry.

He will be missed in the medical and sporting circles.
