Perera venom paralyzes Pakistan batting - 226 all out

Exchanges were even on the first day of the Third Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Pallkelle Stadium, here today. After being dismissed for 226 with right arm medium pace bowler Thisara Perera playing in only his 6th Test, injecting the early venom to paralyze the top Pakistan batting with good pace and movement, the visitors hit back to have Sri Lanka struggling on 44 for 3 at the close.

ABA Intermediate Boxing commences today

The Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka along with the Referees and Judges Association of Sri Lanka will conduct ABA Inermediate boxing tournament 2012 from today at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo. Male and female boxers between the ages of 17-34 years will face elimination bouts during July 9 to 13 at the Sugathadasa Stadium to find Sri Lanka’s future winners at national levels. These pugilists will be freshers who have not participated in other formal tournaments or major meets.

Dr Geethanjan Mendis passes away

It was sad to hear the news of the passing away of Dr. Geethanjan Mendis after a brief illness in the morning of the Third and final Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Pallekelle, here today. An Old Anandian and Neurologist by profession, Mendis after serving in the Neurology Unit of the National Hospital with Dr. J.B. Pieris, headed the Sports Medicine Unit formed by the Ministry of Sport.

Up Country Lions out to make an impact this season

Up Country Lions Rugby Club from Nawalapitiya with a very large complement of national players will be making their debut at the Dialog League Rugby this season will strive hard to create an impact in the local rugby world. Though fielding a star studded side with no less than 13 players who had represented the country and three foreign players to add to the strength, they are yet to play to their true potential if one is to go by their performance this season.
