New police stations to help combat crime

President Mahinda Rajapaksa called for the setting up of new police stations and checkpoints in a bid to combat criminal activities country-wide . President Rajapaksa in his capacity as Finance and Planning, Defence, Ports and Aviation, and Highways Minister was participating in the Parliamentary Consultative meetings of ministries in Parliament on Friday.

STF seizes 86,000 cigarettes, 450 bottles of illicit liquor

STF personnel on Saturday arrested a person in Aluthkade area along with a haul of cigarettes brought into the country evading Customs duty. Police STF personnel, acting on information received by intelligence unit officers of the Rajagiriya camp seized over 86,600 cigarettes, under the brand name Gold Seal valued at nearly Rs. two million from the suspect’s possession.

CID arrests monk

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a man in robes from a temple in Bandarigoda, Induruwa in connection with a series of crimes in Bentota, Aluthgama. Police media sources revealed the monk supported and accommodated the suspects to commit crimes.
